Noah Adams talks with Nicholas Evans about his first novel, "The Horse Whisperer."
Evans received a record 3.15 million dollars for an advance on the North American
publishing rights to a first novel. In addition, the film rights already have been sold
for 3 million dollars. A horse whisperer is someone gifted with the ability to calm a
crazed horse. The story takes place in Montana. (6:00)

LONDON For a man waiting to see if a
golden bolt out of the blue can strike twice, Nicholas Evans exudes a remarkable calm.
"What if this book doesn't do as well
as The Horse Whisperer?" Evans, 48, rolls the question around his head as he
folds his 6-foot frame into an armchair in a leather-wrapped hotel lounge.
"Well," he exhales. "I think this is a better book on a bigger
canvas."
